about

“Being in the midst of Isolation and the danger of falling into panic, I found myself taking comfort in the things I love. For me stories, novels and poetry have always been a little escape. ‘Pride and Prejudice’ has always held a special place in my heart and so its hardly surprising that at this strange time I once again took comfort within the pages of Austen’s carefully crafted world. ‘Fine Eyes’ is directly inspired by this famous novel. I began to see a parallel between this love story and my own reality: a longing for connection. Mr Darcy is trapped and isolated by his own pride, the society he has been thrust into and the fear of his own feelings. He is only able to observe and not fully connect. In the midst of lockdown its safe to say I’ve felt the same way. But I take heart in the fact that Austen’s story doesn’t end that way. Love changes us and despite what traps and hinders us it always wins.”

Charlotte May, an up and coming independent artist is increasingly becoming known for her bold and theatrical flair within Pop / Alternative music. Charlotte May believes that vulnerability and authenticity in a world that is striving to seem perfect, is not only empowering, but essential. Her new release ‘Fine Eyes’ is a playful yet gentle call to courage, a challenge to honestly embrace the budding feelings of falling in love.

lyrics

You don't like
All of these one, two three strides
And you despise
All these silk ribbons and smiles

But you've been looking at her
Ever since the day you met her
You've been looking at those fine eyes
You've been looking at her
Heaven knows you want her nearer
You've been looking at those eyes
You're paralysed

And you don't like to dance
As if you can
It's too romantic
But you've been looking at her
And given half a glance
You're romantic
Oh give it up man
Cause you've been looking at her

You've been looking at her picture
You've been looking at those fine eyes

You can't hide
All of these gentle desires
Left then right (dance with me darling)
You've been looking at those eyes
You're compromised

And you don't like to dance
As if you can
It's too romantic
But you've been looking at her
And given half a glance
You're romantic
Oh give it up man
Cause you've been looking at her

You've been looking at her picture
You've been looking at those fine eyes

And you don't like to dance
Until you saw her dance
Oh give it up man
